This class is not a beginning obedience class. Therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers serve communities by visiting nursing homes, hospitals, libraries, schools, hospices, individuals and other institutions and situations where they are needed.
A dog must be a minimum of one (1) year of age, healthy, and have a sound temperament. Each dog must pass a temperament evaluation for suitability to become a therapy dog, which includes the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC).
There will be a certified Therapy Dog International (TDI) evaluator present for testing. To qualify as a TDI, your dog must pass the Canine Good Citizen Test and additional TDI test requirements. For more information go to the Therapy Dog International website.
